…Because Great Stories Are Meant to Be Shared
In Ireland, the traditional village storyteller is known as a seanchaí — the keeper of history, folklore, and family memory. These storytellers preserved the stories of community, folklore, local legends, and shared ancestry. In his retirement, Michael Sheehan strives to carry on that tradition, honoring the past through personal narrative, memoir, and family history, one story at a time.
Michael grew up in Melrose, Massachusetts, and moved to Eugene, Oregon, in 1972, where he attended the University of Oregon and played on the university’s club soccer team. After nearly a decade of traveling, working, and discovering North America, Europe, and South America and, to some degree, himself, he returned to Oregon to begin a new chapter. In 1982, Michael received his master’s degree in Educational Technology, laying the foundation for a career in healthcare Information Technology, where he became an early leader in a field that would go on to transform modern healthcare.
After serving as Chief Information Officer for PeaceHealth Oregon, Michael founded Crescent Ridge Consulting, an independent healthcare advisory firm. For over six years, the firm provided strategic guidance and technology support to healthcare organizations across the United States. In 2023, he launched Crescent Ridge Publishers to support his writing and independent book projects.
Michael self-published his first book, Rink: Stories from an Oregon Ice Arena, in 2023. He is currently working on two additional books: a family history exploring his Irish roots, and a memoir about his travels across Europe and North Africa in 1977.
His work has been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), Lookout Eugene, and KLCC, in connection with Rink and the Oregon Old Growth. This senior hockey team competes in the over-70 division of the Snoopy Senior Ice Hockey Tournament. The team played in July, 2025 to mark the tournament's 50th anniversary and plans to return in 2026.
Michael lives with his wife, LeeAnn, in Eugene, Oregon. They have four adult children and frequently travel throughout Western North America in their converted campervan with their dog, Sierra.
